European Union's Committee for Standardization, CEN, approved the new standards for furniture EN 12520:2024 version- “Furniture - Strength, durability and safety - Requirements for domestic seating”. It will implement on May 31, 2025 and replace old standard EN 12520: 2016.

Major change:

- Updated the requirements for clamping hands according to the Furniture Safety Guide CEN/TR17202 and added an appendix containing test methods

- Added the definition of single post seat

- Added test methods and requirements for lateral durability of single-column seats

- Table 1 updates the suitability information of the test method according to the seat type

The requirements for seat impact testing are updated according to seat height adjustability

- Increased durability testing of electric seat products

- By adding Appendix D, the seat loading point of the suspended flexible material seat is clarified
